Quartz is a valuable material due to its hardness and durability, particularly for glassmaking and abrasive applications. Because of its hardness and higher Mohs hardness, quartz can scratch glass naturally. On the hardness scale, glass is not even close to being able to scratch anything harder than a 5.5. Since then, Corning Gorilla Glass has become ubiquitous in the mobile phone market – it is estimated that more than three billion devices worldwide are equipped with scratch-resistant material. In 2012, Corning introduced a new version of Gorilla Glass that is said to be twice as strong as its predecessor. The latest iteration of the product Google LG Nexus 4 (16GB) Read Full Specifications. Obviously an Android device, this one comes with the latest version (Jelly Bean 4.2) out of the box. $3.4 billion was spent by smartphone owners in 2017 replacing broken screens, most of which were Gorilla Glass 6. Intevac and privately held Denton Vacuum supply equipment to smartphone After all, many of us buy cases due to accidental drops instead of everyday scratches.According to the sooner UBreakIFix video, Gorilla Glass can bend more during a four-point bend test than Sapphire. Sapphire could be more scratch-resistant, but its ability to face up to a drop-induced bend or deformation isn’t as great as Gorilla Glass. Gorilla glass isn't made to be scratch resistant, in fact its very easy to scratch, its made to be flexible (and hence soft) so that it won't crack as easily when dropped. Sapphire is very scratch resistant and hard, but too expensive to use for personal glasses. Gorilla Glass 3 should be more resistant to scratches than the others. Corning focused more on drop resistance in the later versions. I don't have a screen protector (don't like them and my phone came with a free screen replacement no questions asked). Not a scratch. Forerunner 965 - Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Hard to scratch, but not scratch proof. Fenix/epix Gen 2 - Sapphire Crystal on some models. More difficult to scratch than Gorilla Glass, but still not 100% scratch proof. Good video here. Apparently not afraid to scratch some expensive watches for testing purposes. NHlT8.
